One photo is all it takes
PestOz provides scheduled pest control for restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses across Sydney, from the CBD and the Eastern Suburbs to the north shore and Parramatta, with treatments timed outside trading hours and documentation written for food safety inspections. We are a licensed, fully insured and CM3-certified family business with more than 20 years of experience.
In hospitality the pest problem is never just the pest. It is the review, the photo, the failed inspection and the staff member who quits over what they saw under the dishwasher. So the job is not only to treat what is there, but to keep the venue in a state where an inspector walking in unannounced finds nothing to write up.
Commercial kitchens are close to a perfect habitat. Warmth, moisture, food debris, deliveries arriving from other premises, equipment that never moves and cavities nobody can reach with a mop. German cockroaches in particular breed indoors year round, so a venue with a live population does not get a quiet season.
We service venues before open, after close or overnight, using products chosen for food-handling areas, and we email the report and safety data sheets afterwards so your food safety program stays current.
Pest control is not a nice-to-have in a food business. It is written into the Food Standards Code, and it is one of the first things checked.
Under Standard 3.2.2 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, a food business must take all practicable measures to prevent pests entering the premises, and to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests on the premises. Standard 3.2.3 goes further and requires premises to be designed and constructed so pests can be excluded in the first place.
In NSW those obligations are enforced by your local council or the NSW Food Authority, usually through an unannounced inspection. Inspectors are not only looking for live pests. They are looking for evidence: droppings behind equipment, cast cockroach skins in cracks, gnaw marks on packaging, dead insects in light fittings, and gaps under doors that let the next one in.
They also look for your evidence. A current pest control program with service records, and a demonstrable response when something is found, is the difference between a note and a formal problem.
That is why every PestOz service leaves a written record. Not because it makes the treatment work better, but because it is the thing you will be asked for.
What we give you for your food safety program

Regulatory references: Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, Standard 3.2.2 (Food Safety Practices and General Requirements) and Standard 3.2.3 (Food Premises and Equipment); NSW Food Authority. Inspection frequency and Scores on Doors participation vary by council.
Kitchen pests
The four that cost venues the most
Different pests, different treatment logic. Getting that wrong is how a venue ends up spraying every month and still failing.
German cockroaches
The defining hospitality pest. They live indoors permanently, breed year round, and hide inside the warm places you cannot clean: motor housings, dishwasher cavities, the gap behind the cool room, hinges, and inside electrical equipment.
Surface spraying makes them worse, because it scatters the population deeper into the building. They need a gel baiting program plus an insect growth regulator, applied where they actually harbour, and repeated until the breeding cycle breaks.
Rodents come for the same things your kitchen has in abundance: food, warmth and water. They nest in ceiling voids, wall cavities, behind cool rooms and around grease traps, and they travel between neighbouring premises through shared walls and service ducts.
Rodent control in a food business is a program, not a call-out. Proofing the entry points, monitored and mapped stations in the right locations, and documentation showing those stations are being checked.
Flies are the pest customers notice first, and they are almost always a breeding-source problem rather than a spraying problem. Bin areas, floor waste, grease traps, drain build-up, mop buckets and spilled product under equipment are the usual culprits.
We find and treat the source, treat resting surfaces, and advise on the waste and drain practices that stop the cycle restarting. Fly pressure spikes in warm weather and around outdoor dining, so venues with a terrace need a plan for summer.
Stored product pests
Weevils, flour beetles and pantry moths arrive inside deliveries rather than through the back door, which is why they turn up in venues that are otherwise spotless. They breed inside flour, grain, rice, spices, nuts and dry goods.
Control means finding and removing the infested stock, treating the storage area, and tightening stock rotation and receiving checks. Left alone, one bad sack contaminates a whole dry store and everything in it.
How we service venues
You should never see us working
Outside trading hours
Early mornings before prep, after close, or overnight. We work around your service, not the other way round.
Food-safe products, placed properly
Products approved for use in food-handling areas, applied into cracks, voids and harbourage rather than sprayed over the surfaces your team preps on.
Discreet attendance
No disruption to service and nothing for a customer to photograph. Where a venue prefers it, we coordinate access through the manager directly.
Documentation the same day
The service report and safety data sheets are emailed after the visit, so the record exists before anyone asks for it.
Priority between visits
If something turns up mid-week, program venues are fitted in ahead of new bookings, usually the same day or the next. A sighting in a trading kitchen cannot wait for the next scheduled visit.
Group-ready
Multiple venues under one program, one reporting format and one contact, wherever your venues are in Sydney.
We walk the kitchen, dry store, bin area and back of house, identify what is active and what is inviting it, and quote the right program.
2
Initial treatment
Baiting and targeted treatment into harbourage, plus rodent proofing and station placement, all done outside trading hours.
3
Follow-up
Cockroach and rodent problems are broken over successive visits, not one. We come back on schedule until the population is gone, not just quiet.
4
Ongoing program
Scheduled service at the interval your venue needs, with reporting after every visit and priority attendance if something appears in between.
Frequently asked questions
Restaurant & cafe pest control, answered
How often does a restaurant or cafe need pest control in Sydney?+
Most Sydney food venues are best protected on a monthly program, and higher-risk sites such as busy kitchens, venues with outdoor dining or premises sharing walls with other food businesses sometimes need more. Lower-volume cafes can often be maintained quarterly. The right interval depends on the venue rather than on a package, so PestOz recommends a frequency after a free site assessment and sets it out in the quote.
Is pest control a legal requirement for a food business in NSW?+
Yes, in effect. Standard 3.2.2 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code requires a food business to take all practicable measures to prevent pests entering the premises and to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests on the premises, and Standard 3.2.3 requires premises to be designed and constructed to exclude pests. In NSW these obligations are enforced by your local council or the NSW Food Authority. A documented pest control program is the normal way a venue demonstrates it is meeting them.
Will you treat the venue outside trading hours?+
Yes. Venue treatments are scheduled before open, after close or overnight so service is never interrupted and customers never see a technician working. We coordinate access with your manager or head chef, and we work around prep, deliveries and cleaning schedules rather than expecting the venue to work around us.
What documentation do you provide for a food safety inspection?+
After every visit PestOz emails an electronic service report covering what was inspected, what was found and what was treated, along with safety data sheets for the products used. Over time this builds a continuous service history you can show an inspector or an auditor, which is what they generally want to see alongside the absence of live pests. Licence and insurance details are available for your contractor file on request.
Why do German cockroaches keep coming back after spraying?+
Because surface spraying does not reach where they live. German cockroaches harbour inside warm cavities such as motor housings, dishwasher and cool room voids, hinges and electrical equipment, and a repellent spray tends to scatter them further into the building rather than kill the population. Control requires gel baiting into harbourage combined with an insect growth regulator, repeated over successive visits until the breeding cycle is broken.
Can a pest problem come from the business next door?+
Yes, and in strip shops, arcades and food courts it often does. Rodents and cockroaches move between neighbouring premises through shared walls, ceiling voids, service ducts and common waste areas, which is why a spotless venue can still have an ongoing problem. In those situations we treat your premises, proof the shared entry points we can reach, and where the site is under one landlord or centre management we recommend a building-wide program.
Are the products safe to use in a commercial kitchen?+
Yes. We use products approved for use in Australia and selected for food-handling environments, applied by a licensed technician into cracks, voids and harbourage rather than over food-contact surfaces. Your technician will tell you which areas need to be wiped down before service and how long to allow, and the safety data sheet for every product is emailed with the report.
Do you service hospitality groups with multiple venues?+
Yes. PestOz services single venues and multi-venue groups right across Sydney, from the CBD and the Eastern Suburbs to the north shore and Parramatta, because a group's venues rarely sit in one postcode. Every site gets the same program specification, the same reporting format and one point of contact for the group. Our client list includes property managers such as JLL, CBRE and Knight Frank.
